I-RELIEF™ HOT & COLD THERAPY EYE MASK WITH THERMABEADS™

Therapeutic Mask

Dry Eye Disease is one of the most common, yet underdiagnosed, ocular diseases. Early-onset dry eye disease is characterized by mild symptoms that are often ignored or mismanaged by patients. As a result, dry eye disease often goes undiagnosed until the symptoms worsen.

Eye care professionals recommend moist heat therapy as a form of supplementary treatment for people suffering from dry eyes and other conditions of the eyelid. Hot or cold compresses can provide immediate relief from discomfort, and consistent use over time can help increase blood circulation, stimulate lipid oil production and reduce tear evaporation, thereby improving overall ocular health.

I-RELIEF Hot & Cold Therapy Eye Mask with ThermaBeads can help patients manage their dry eye condition from the mildest of symptoms to more serious conditions, such as MGD or Blepharitis.

What can I-RELIEF moist heat therapy help with?

Managing Your Dry Eye Disease

Dry Eye Disease (DED) occurs when the eyes fail to produce enough natural tears, or the tears evaporate too quickly. Well-balanced tears are vital to the overall health of our eyes. Each time we blink, a protective coating of tears is spread like a film over the surface of the eyes. When there is an inadequacy in either quality or quantity of tears, dry eyes result. Symptoms of dry eye can include burning, stinging, irritation, redness, discharge, and blurring, among others. These symptoms can range from very mild and occasional to quite severe and chronic.

Tear film is the liquid that protects the cornea. This liquid is what keeps the eyes sufficiently hydrated and lubricated. There are three layers that make up the tear film, an oil (lipid) layer, a water (aqueous) layer, and a mucin layer. These three layers work together to protect, nourish, and guard our eyes against infection. Dry eye occurs when the tear film evaporates or breaks up too quickly.

According to the DEWS II Management and Therapy Report, the aim of clinical management of DED is to restore homeostasis to the ocular surface. Depending on the diagnostic assessment, the patient may require multiple therapies. As such, a stepped approach to choosing the appropriate therapy is recommended, while keeping in mind that crossover between steps of therapy may be required.

Using I-RELIEF Hot & Cold Therapy Eye Mask with ThermaBeads™ is recommended as step 1 of a 4-step approach in managing dry eye disease.

Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)

MGD occurs due to a blockage or some other abnormality of the Meibomian glands where they don’t secrete enough oil into the tears. MGD is the leading cause of dry eye disease.

Blepharitis

An inflammation of the eyelids causes them to become red, swollen, itchy and irritated with clumping of scaly skin around the base of the eyelashes. It is a common eye disorder that can affect people of all ages.

Chalazia

Cysts that form in the eyelid due to a blocked oil gland. They can sometimes appear reddish in color but are not typically very painful. They generally form in the middle of the eyelid. A chalazion may occur following a sty or due to hardened oils blocking the gland. The blocked gland in question is usually the Meibomian gland but can also be the gland of Zeis.

Styes

A stye is a red, painful lump near the edge of your eyelid that may look like a boil or pimple. A stye usually forms on the outside of your eyelid, but occasionally it can form on the inner part. A stye is caused by an infection of oil glands in the eyelid mainly caused by the bacterium staphylococcus.

What can I-RELIEF™ cold therapy help with?

Patients suffering from headaches, sinus pressure, and tension can benefit from I-RELIEF™ cold therapy, as it constricts blood vessels and helps to increase comfort. Patients who frequently use screens and electronic devices often “forget to blink” which can lead to eye strain and red, burning, or painful eyes. I-RELIEF™ cold therapy can help alleviate all these symptoms.
